FIRST DAY OF FIRST GRADE

WOW, where has the summer gone?! I can't believe my baby is in 1st Grade. He has told everyone all summer, when asked about his age, I'm in the 1st Grade. No son, not until Aug.11 for now you're still a Kindergartner! So today, he's officially a 1st Grader. I know, I know, you have to let them grow up sooner or later, but I prefer LATER!! He did great getting ready this AM, complete with deodorant and cologne, oh yes, my boys have got to be some of the cleanest boys on earth.
Cute Story...Last week we were in Bath & Body and I restocked on the foam soaps and the boys as always headed to the "men's dept.". I had shopped and was putting my stuff up on the counter. They bring a bottle of cologne up and ask for it. I tell them not now, that cologne is just something you usually have 1 of and buy another when you need one. But Mom....you know the usual lines and then I reminded them CHRISTmas would be here before we knew it to put it on their list. The clerk had got to my last item and then Levi tries to be smooth and slide the cologne up on the counter and says "Mam, we would like this too." I said "Sir, no we don't" and I slide the cologne back. Pretty sneaky for 6. Then he tried to bargain, no toys or stuff for a long time if we could just have this. "No, again and take it back where you got it please." Drooped shoulders and pooch lips, the cologne returned to the shelf. And did I mention, "It's JUST $25, Mom."
Anyway, back to school. He did great while we waited to sign in and when we got to his room. However, I could started to sense a little anxiousness. "I love you Mom and I'm really gonna miss you." So hard to just ignore that or be mean. I just let him know that if he got upset I would not be able to help at school like I did last year. He straightened up pretty fast and so I said my goodbye's. He said "everything is new, my teacher and my new bathroom(how cute)." It will be fine son, all bathroom's pretty much work the same and I know you will love Ms.Henson, she'll take great care of you." A little reassurance and he was just fine. Don't you just love 'em to pieces?
I went to pick him up and he could have cared less if I was there or not. That's great though, I don't want him to be upset. 1 day at school and the attitude has already returned! Houston asked him if he missed him today, Levi would not reply but gave an ever cool nod. Then Houston asked if Ms.Henson was sweet and Levi replies"Yes, totally!" OMG, he talks so grown already. I really missed him but I know he is in the Good Lord's hands and that gives me great comfort.

This was at Open House last Thursday night.
